A belief that the majority of Lumby council should live in Lumby

That taxation without representation is wrong has been around for 225 years. People should not be surprised at my belief that Lumby council should have at least a majority of residents.

This was an issue in the 2009 by-election. Two of the councillors at that time were residents of Area D, and at least one person running in the by-election was, too. It was possible that after the election 3 of the 5 votes shaping the future of Lumby would come from people who didn't live (or pay taxes) here. I was appalled and it became one of the 3 planks of my platform.

I printed my belief on my brochure, and handed it out to anyone I could find.  Here's what it says under "Commitments":
  1. Work towards improving village communication and transparency
  2. Belief that the majority of Village councillors should be Village residents
  3. Opposition to parking meters in downtown Lumby.
The brochure worked so well that I reprinted the same brochure just before the 2011 all-candidate's forum.
I can't force this issue. The law is clear that any citizen can run in any election anywhere in BC, maybe even Canada. But that's what I believe, and since July 5, 2009 I have expressed that to anyone who would listen.

Nothing personal, Jim. I think you will be a great mayor for Lumby if you are elected, but a little personal research before you accept what you hear from those who have an agenda (and we all have an agenda) will pay off in the long run.

ps. Residency is not an issue in this election. All but 2 people running live in the village so there is zero chance that a majority will be from outside the boundaries. It is safe to vote for whoever you think will best represent you.

My understanding of the meaning of the Okanagan word "en'owkin" is that the best decisions are made when everyone is heard, & respect is given to all.
