Lumby council beckons

November 19, 2011 will be my second attempt to be elected to Lumby council. The first attempt was in August, a much more pleasant time to be out meeting people while they worked  in their gardens. Maybe more people will be home this time.

The number of empty homes I came across that summer surprised me. Approaching a house there would be a car in the driveway, and the curtains perhaps half pulled. As I got closer I would realize that everything was too neat and clean. No toys in the yard, no dog barking and no lawn furniture or  bbq visible. Everything put away.

Perhaps they were on an extended vacation, but more likely they represented families who had to go away to work. A motor home in Grande Prairie, Ft. St. John, or Fort Nelson was now their temporary home. No, they haven't sold their house in Lumby because one day they hope to come back.

My understanding of the meaning of the Okanagan word "en'owkin" is that the best decisions are made when everyone is heard, & respect is given to all.
